Luckily a hard smooth field. Good skills getting to that field but need to hold off the nose wheel as long as possible to avoid a flip over on soft spots.

Superb. Aviate, navigate, communicate, he did all three which is very impressive for a student pilot- I thought he was losing focus on his field choice and approach as he was communicating and playing with the transponder a lot, but he nailed it 👏🏽

I am sure different instructor in different countries teach different forced landing procedures, but I can't seem to see a form of procedure being followed. Can someone who knows comment. [Mine would go 1) set yourself for best glide configuration 2) check Fuel (ah, yes, it s fuel, skip checking carb, mixture ignition and throttle) 3) identify field 4) plan touch down point, final, base, 1000ft point 1500ft point, go to 1500ft point 5) an actual mayday call 6) shutdown checks (fuel off mix lean magnetos off...), ...use some flap, ...] Note I am absolutely not criticising, is landing is God damn impressive, I really thought he was coming in super fast (don't you think?) but he nailed it.

    • Dmytro Gubskyi

      Dmytro Gubskyi

@Lolz he missed a few points, but he’s pretty short on time and stressed heavily, which I understand completely. Not blaming him for anything except the reason he got himself in this situation in the first place. He admitted his fault though, and I’m pretty sure he learnt his lesson well.

    • Lolz

      Lolz

@Dmytro Gubskyi yes, same. But I don't doubt but there is varying procedures going around, just wondered whether a) he has done it and I just don't see it b) he hasn't done it but instinctively done the right thing, or c) hegot lucky

Checklist at my place also includes: master off on short final, when you know you won't need flaps control anymore, and seconds from touchdown - open the door lock.
